Univation to build catalyst manufacturing facility in China

Gerald Ondrey

Univation Technologies, LLC (Houston, Tex.; has begun construction of a new polyethylene (PE) catalyst-manufacturing facility in China with a scheduled 2011 startup. The facility will be located in Zhangjiagang within the Jiangsu province of the People’s Republic of China.  The new facility, which will have expansion capability, will produce Univation’s UCAT J High Productivity Catalyst that is employed in the production of a broad range of LLDPE and HDPE products.
There are over 20 UNIPOL PE Process reactors in operation or under construction in China and this investment re-enforces Univation’s commitment to its customers and to the region. “We continue to seek ways to help our customers operate reliably and cost effectively. Our new UCAT J Catalyst facility creates a solution that brings this high value catalyst closer to our customers,” notes Kenneth Glover, president of Univation Technologies. The plant will meet the growing needs for this catalyst for licensees of the UNIPOL PE Gas-Phase Process and supports long term global growth in existing and emerging markets.
Univation will continue to provide UCAT Conventional Catalysts, XCAT Metallocene Catalysts, and PRODIGY Bimodal Catalysts from several facilities located in North America.
