Combustion guidelines

| By Chemical Engineering

Last month, the Commission on Air Pollution Prevention of the VDI and DIN Standards Committee (Düsseldorf, Germany; edlinks.chemengonline.com/5828-544) published a new guideline (VDI 2442), which provides specific information on the design, construction and operation of waste-gas cleaning plants using thermal combustion. This includes plants with a nearly adiabatic zone of reaction (such as combustion chambers with ceramic linings) and with non-adiabatic reaction zones (such as flares and steam boilers). The new Guideline, which replaces the draft edition published in November 2003 and the June 1987 edition, is available in German or English.
