Emergency relief system designers use a variety of mass-flux equations to properly size relief valves. A careful look at all the existing equations can yield insights on how the calculations can be executed with a single mass-flux equation. This article presents a universal mass-flux equation that can be used to easily and accurately size relief valves for liquid flow, vapor flow and two-phase flow at both critical and sub-critical flow conditions....
