H Sulphur licenses Shell Thiogro Technology

| By Gerald Ondrey

Shell Thiogro Technology (www.shell.com/sulphur/thiogro) will enable H Sulphur Corp. (Ulsan, South Korea; www.hsulphur.com) to produce a highly concentrated sulfur-enhanced fertilizer for use on a variety of crops across the globe.  The product uses Shell Thiogro’s Urea-ES technology, a patented process to suspend micronized elemental sulfur in a matrix of urea (see also Chem. Eng. April 2007; www.chemengonline.com/the-spread-of-nitrogen-fertilizers). The technology will be installed at H Sulphur’s facility in Ulsan, South Korea, and will be produced on the Sandvik Rotoformer System.

“This new high-sulfur (75% S) fertilizer will allow H Sulphur to diversify its product portfolio by offering a sulfur source that is available throughout the crop cycle. As a manufacturer with over 38 years of experience in a diverse range of sulfur-based products, we know from our experience that this new product will make a significant impact in the sulfur-enhanced fertilizer industry over a relatively short period of time,” says Yoo YoonChu, chairman of H Sulphur Corp. “With the launch of this new product, H Sulphur Corp. is now ready to face the challenges of the future.”

The technology is expected to be commissioned in late 2018.
