Haldor Topsøe licensing technology to Azerbaijan’s first ammonia-urea complex
The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) has decided to build the country’s first combined ammonia-urea complex 30 km north of Azerbaijan’s capital Baku. The plant is going to play a very important role for the economy of Azerbaijan in securing a reliable fertilizer production, and consequently, food supplies for the population.
SOCAR has chosen Haldor Topsøe A/S (Lyngby, Denmark; www.topsoe.com) as licensor for the ammonia process due to the company’s extensive experience within ammonia process design and technology. The ammonia plant, which is based on natural gas feedstock, will have a capacity of 1,200 metric tons (m.t.) per day of ammonia.
The urea plant is based on Stamicarbon technology and will have a capacity of 2,000 m.t./d of urea. Korean Samsung Engineering is responsible for the overall construction of the complex, which begins in 2013 and is expected to be commissioned in 2016.
