Covestro starts up bio-based aniline pilot plant in Leverkusen
facebook  twitter  linkedin
Covestro AG (Leverkusen, Germany) is moving forward with the implementation of a unique process for producing the important chemical aniline entirely based on plant biomass instead of petroleum for the first time. At its Leverkusen site, the plastics manufacturer has now put a special pilot plant into operation for this purpose. Initially, large quantities of bio-based aniline will be produced there, so that the new technology can be further developed for production and transferred to an industrial scale. In the plastics industry, aniline is used to produce MDI, among other things. This in turn is used for insulating foam, for example, which saves energy in buildings and reduces the CO2 footprint. Arkema SA (Colombes, France) has obtained ISCC+ certification for its acrylic acid and ester production facility located in Taixing, Jiangsu Province, China. Taixing site stands as the first acrylic monomers plant in China to receive ISCC+ certification. In the near future, the production of certified bio-attributed materials will extend to North America, complementing the previously certified acrylic monomers production in Carling, France. This global dynamic will support the progressive introduction of Arkema's complete range of bio-attributed specialty resins and additives for the low VOC and lower carbon intensive technologies including high solid, waterborne, UV/LED, and polyester powders.  MORE

BASF and Inditex develop circular nylon 6 based on textile waste
facebook  twitter  linkedin
BASF SE (Ludwigshafen, Germany) and Inditex jointly announced a breakthrough in their efforts for boosting recyclability in the textile industry. With the launch of loopamid, a polyamide 6 (PA6, also known as nylon 6) made from 100 percent textile waste, BASF is providing the first circular solution for nylon apparel made entirely from textile waste. With loopamid, BASF has developed an innovative solution to improve circularity in the fashion industry and recycle polyamide 6 textile waste. Due to its capability to tolerate all fabric mixtures like PA6 and elastane, the cutting-edge technology behind loopamid allows textile-to-textile recycling of post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste.  MORE
