Motor analyzer aids in troubleshooting efforts

The Fluke 438-II motor analyzer (photo) provides analysis data for both the electrical and mechanical characteristics of the motor while it is in operation. It uses proprietary algorithms to analyze and measure the three-phase current and voltage waveforms and compares them against rated specification to calculate motor mechanical performance. The device analyzes not only three-phase power quality, but also torque, efficiency and speed to determine system performance and detect overloaded conditions. This device eliminates the need for motor-load sensors and allows operators to make adjustments before failures cause an operational shutdown, says the company. — Fluke Corp., Everett, Wash.
