Shell invests in new furnaces to reduce emissions from its Moerdijk chemicals plant
Shell (The Hague, the Netherlands) says it will replace the ethylene steam-cracker furnaces at its Moerdijk petrochemicals complex, the Netherlands, in a move that will reduce its greenhouse gas emissions. Shell will install eight new furnaces in place of 16 older units without reducing capacity at the facility. The investment significantly reduces both the site’s energy consumption and its operational greenhouse gas emissions. »

Lukoil selects Lummus Novolen technology for new polypropylene plant
Lummus Technology announced that its Novolen business has been awarded a contract by Lukoil NNOS for a petrochemical facility in Kstovo, Russia. Lummus' scope includes the technology license for a polypropylene unit, as well as basic design engineering, training and services, and catalyst supply. The plant’s capacity is 500,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr). »

Air Liquide announces new investment and supply agreement to serve Eastman Chemical in Texas
Air Liquide (Paris, France) announced a long-term supply agreement with Eastman Chemical Co. (Kingsport, Tenn.) to provide additional gaseous oxygen, nitrogen and syngas supporting Eastman’s growth and production in Longview, Texas. Air Liquide will invest more than $160 million to modernize existing assets and build a new Air Separation Unit (ASU) and Partial Oxidation Unit (POX). »

SASA will license Invista's P8 technology for new plant in Turkey
Invista’s (Wichita, Kan.) technology and licensing group, Invista Performance Technologies (IPT), and SASA Polyester Sanayi A.Ş. (SASA) reached an agreement for the license of IPT’s P8 process technology for SASA’s PTA project in Adana, Turkey. With an annual PTA production capacity of 1.5 million tons, this would be the largest single-stream design capacity licensed by INVISTA. »

LyondellBasell (Rotterdam, the Netherlands) and China's Liaoning Bora Enterprise Group (Bora) announced the establishment and startup of their new joint venture polyolefin complex in the Liaoning province of northeastern China. First announced in September 2019, the 50:50 joint venture (JV) will operate under the name Bora LyondellBasell Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (BLYB). »
