Tanaka Holdings Co. (Tokyo; www.pro.tanaka.co.jp) announced that Tanaka Kikinzoku Kogyo K.K., which operates Tanaka’s Precious Metals manufacturing business, established a new Fuel Cell (FC) Catalysts Development Center in Kanagawa Prefecture to develop and manufacture electrode catalysts to be used in fuel cells (FC). With the addition of this new manufacturing center, production capacity for fuel-cell catalysts will increase seven-fold. As a result, Tanaka will be able to provide stable supply of products in response to demand for precious-metal-based electrode catalysts, which is rising in recent years.

The new building is located adjacent to an existing FC Catalyst Development Center at Tanaka’s Shonan Plant. The new building is approximately 3,000 square meters. This new production site has been combined with the construction of a new shipping and warehouse facility. Construction on the new facility is expected to be complete soon, and it is anticipated that full-scale operations will commence in January 2019. The investment in the new facility is approximately 4.0 billion yen.
