The preliminary value for the CE Plant Cost Index (CEPCI) for October 2023 (most recent available) is lower than the previous month’s value, continuing a trend of lower monthly values that has been observed since May 2023. To arrive at the overall CEPCI decline for October 2023, decreases in the Equipment and Buildings subindices offset small increases in the Construction Labor and Engineering & Supervision subindices. The current CEPCI value now sits at 3.1% lower than the corresponding value from October 2022. Meanwhile, the Current Business Indicators show small decreases in the CPI output index and the CPI operating rate for October 2023, and an increase in the CPI value of output for September 2023.
