A federal government shutdown in the U.S. from October 1 to November 12, 2025 disrupted the release of producer price index (PPI) data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), so the CE Plant Cost Index (CEPCI) is behind schedule. As of December 12, 2025, Chemical Engineering was able to obtain data to calculate final values for August 2025 for the CEPCI and the underlying subindices (the last data available before the shutdown was August prelim.). Some BLS data for September are now also available, although it is not yet complete. Chemical Engineering used the available data to calculate a preliminary value for September 2025, albeit missing some data points. In the near future, the CEPCI will be updated as more BLS PPI data become available.
