Kemira acquires REPUR S.r.l., Italy-based activated-carbon company

| By Mary Bailey

Kemira Oyj (Helsinki, Finland) has completed the acquisition of REPUR S.r.l., an Italy-based provider of activated carbon reactivation services for municipal and industrial water treatment applications. REPUR’s 2025 revenue was slightly over 5 million Euros and it employs 21 people. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The acquisition strengthens Kemira’s position in sustainable water treatment and supports the company’s strategy to expand in water while creating new growth opportunities in circularity-driven markets. REPUR specializes in the thermal reactivation of spent activated carbon, helping customers restore and reuse carbon media used in water treatment processes instead of replacing it with virgin material.

“This acquisition is a strong example of executing our growth strategy,” said Tuija Pohjolainen-Hiltunen, EVP, Water Solutions. “Activated carbon plays an increasingly important role in removing contaminants from water, while the regeneration and reactivation of spent carbon supports circularity and resource efficiency.”

The acquired business will be integrated into Kemira’s Water Solutions business unit, and operations will continue from the current location in Italy.
