A furnace for heat-treating larger components

| By Chemical Engineering

Anticipating growing demand for producing larger gears, shafts and other components, this sub-contract heat-treatment specialist has enlarged the size of one of its largest pit furnaces (photo). The company increased the dimensions to 1,100 mm working diameter and almost 1,800 mm maximum length, thereby gaining 30% in overall capacity. At the same time, the company has upgraded the lifting capacity of its overhead crane, which serves all of its seven pit furnaces, a salt bath and tempering equipment, to 3.0 metric tons maximum lift. — Keighley Laboratories Ltd., Keighley, West Yorkshire, U.K.
