Kemira to build sodium chlorate plant for pulp mill in Brazil
May 9, 2014 — Kemira Oyj (Helsinki, Finland; www.kemira.com) will supply sodium chlorate to Klabin’s new pulp mill in Paraná, Brazil. Kemira will build, own and operate the sodium chlorate plant, which is scheduled to begin production during the first half of 2016.
BASF and Yara plan to build ammonia plant in Freeport, Tex.
May 8, 2014 — BASF SE (Ludwigshafen, Germany; www.basf.com) and Yara (Osöo, Norway; www.yara.com) plan to jointly build an ammonia plant on the U.S. Gulf Coast.The proposed plant would be located at the existing BASF site in Freeport, Tex., and would have a capacity of 750,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr), based on a hydrogen-synthesis production process.
AkzoNobel inaugurates membrane-electrolysis plant in Germany
May 6, 2014 — AkzoNobel N.V. (Amsterdam, the Netherlands; www.akzonobel.com) has inaugurated a new chlorine membrane-electrolysis plant in the Rhein-Main area of Germany. The plant is the result of a major conversion and expansion project begun in 2011 involving a €140 million investment. Capacity has been expanded by 50%, resulting in a chlorine production capability of 250,000 m.t./yr.
