An Alternative for Polytetrafluoroethylene Envelope Gaskets

| By Chemical Engineering

Intended for fragile, glass-lined and large-diameter equipment, the Series 600 gasket tape (photo) consists entirely of multidirectional-strength, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). The tape is capable of resisting degradation by all chemicals with pH of 0 to 14, except molten alkali metals and elemental fluorine. It can withstand temperatures ranging from – 450 to 600°F, and it is easy to install. Boasting that the Series 600 resists creep relaxation and retains its width and thickness profile when compressed, the firm offers the tape as an alternative to PTFE envelope gaskets. It is available in 1.00-, 1.25-, 1.50-, 2.00- and 2.50-in. widths at thicknesses of 0.25 and 0.375 in. — W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc., Newark, Del.
