Arkema S.A. (Paris la Defense, France) announced that its site in Jarrie, Isère, France has reached a new milestone in its reorganization with the commissioning of a hydrogen production unit based on Steam Methane Reforming (SMR) technology.

Arkema is one of the world’s leading producers of hydrogen peroxide, with an industrial network of four production sites across Europe and North America. Jarrie’s site plays a central role within this network, as it is the Group’s largest hydrogen peroxide production facility.
Officially inaugurated on September 22, the new SMR unit marks the first phase of a major investment plan extending through 2028. Representing an investment of approximately €10 million, the unit supplies hydrogen to the site. It was commissioned in July 2026, on schedule, thanks to the strong commitment of the site teams and their partners.
As announced during the January 2025 reorganization, the site is refocusing on its strategic hydrogen peroxide, chlorate and perchlorate activities. The transformation of the site will continue with the commissioning of new projects in 2026 and 2027, aimed in particular at optimizing hydrogen flows and the supply of raw materials,” said Matthieu Brisson, Director of the Jarrie site
A historic product of the Jarrie site, hydrogen peroxide is used in a wide range of applications, including pulp and paper, electronics, and chemical synthesis intermediates.
The site also produces sodium chlorate and sodium perchlorate for customers in the electronics, water treatment and aerospace sectors, notably its long-standing customer ArianeGroup.
