Axens awarded petrochemical complex in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan’s JSC Trade House KazMunaiGaz has selected Axens’ (Rueil-Malmaison Cedex – France; www.axens.net) ParamaX Technology Suite for the first major aromatics complex to be located at the Atyrau Refinery in Kazakhstan. The Atyrau refinery processes up to 5.0 million metric ton (m.t.) per year of crude oil from various fields in Western Kazakhstan. The new 629,000 m.t./yr grassroots plant will produce 496,000 m.t./yr paraxylene and 133,000 m.t./yr benzene. Plant start-up is planned for the 2012–2013 timeframe. The decision to construct the petrochemical complex follows an extensive conceptual study undertaken by Axens’ Performance Programs Business Unit with the Kazgiproneftetrans Engineering Company LLP from Kazakhstan. The front end engineering designs are led by JSC Omskneftekhimproektfrom Russia. ParamaX designates a suite of technologies for the production of paraxylene and benzene from naphtha. Axens and ExxonMobil Chemical have entered into an Alliance to provide paraxylene production technologies for grassroots paraxylene complexes around the world.
