Qatar Petroleum (www.QP.com) has awarded Axens (Rueil-Malmaison, France; www.axens.net) basic engineering design contracts for the new 250,000 bbl/d Al Shaheen petroleum refinery to be built in the Messaieed Industial City in Qatar. Axens will supply the following process technologies* for the refinery:
• Hyvahl — 51,000 bbl/d fixed-bed, 100% vacuum residue desulfurization (VRDS) unit equipped with its proprietary PRS permutable guard-bed reactor system
• R2R — 60,000 bbl/d residue fluidized-catalytic-cracker (RFCC) technology
• Prime-G+ — 30,000 bbl/d RFCC gasoline desulfurization unit
The refinery units will be provided with the latest advanced technologies making this one of the most modern refinery complexes in the world. The facility is scheduled to be operational by Q1 2012.
The long cycle lengths obtained in the Hyvahl unit on the 11% asphalt containing Al Shaheen vacuum-residue feed is made possible by the PRS system. The unit will also employ the latest ACT grading materials, HF 858 demetallization and HT 438 desulfurization catalysts, and EquiFlow reactor internals. The Hyvahl unit radically improves the feed quality to the R2R unit while co-producing a diesel cut that is…
