BASF inaugurates alkyl polyglucosides expansion in Cincinnati

| By Mary Bailey

BASF SE (Ludwigshafen, Germany) has inaugurated the expansion of its alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) production capacity at its Cincinnati, Ohio, site, further strengthening the company’s manufacturing footprint in the U.S. First announced in 2023, the expansion reinforces Cincinnati’s role in BASF’s regional production network and strengthens the company’s position as a leading APG supplier in the U.S. By increasing production close to its North American customers, BASF can combine a reliable regional supply point with its broad APG portfolio and formulation expertise.

“The Cincinnati expansion represents an important step in reinforcing BASF’s leadership in the U.S. APG market,” said Gisela Pinheiro, BASF senior vice president, Home Care and Industrial & Institutional Cleaning. “Combining our broad APG portfolio and formulation expertise with expanded regional production allows us to work even more closely with customers. It strengthens our ability to support innovation and sustainability targets across a wide range of applications.”

APGs, marketed by BASF under the trade names Glucopon®, Plantaren®, Agnique® PG and Disponil® APG, are bio-based, readily biodegradable (according to OECD 301), mild, non-ionic surfactants derived from 100% natural and renewable feedstocks. Their excellent performance and compatibility with other surfactants make them highly versatile ingredients for personal care, home care, industrial and institutional cleaning, industrial formulations, and agricultural applications.

In addition to Cincinnati, BASF produces APGs at sites in Düsseldorf, Germany; Jinshan, China; and Bangpakong, Thailand. Together, these facilities enable BASF to provide reliable supply and respond more effectively to customer needs across regions.
