By Gerald Ondrey |

Cegelec (Paris, France; www.cegelec.com) has been awarded an EPC contract worth over $40 million to design and construct the blast-proof Control Building for QAPCO’s petrochemical complex being part of the new 300,000 metric ton per year (m.t./yr) low-density polyethylene (LDPE) plant to be completed by the end of 2011 in Mesaieed (Qatar). The contract, awarded by Uhde GmbH (Dortmund, Germany; www.uhde.biz), follows another contract by which Cegelec already carried out the basic design of the Control Building in 2008, including ergonomics, structural and architectural design, on behalf of QAPCO, one of the leading producers of ethylene and LDPE in the Middle East region. As part of this new contract, Cegelec will take care of all necessary building and power facilities. The Group has also been entrusted with the relocation and upgrades of all systems related to the existing plants, specifically emergency shutdown, distributed control systems, closed-circuit television, fire & gas detection and extinction, as well as public address and general alarm. Cegelec is currently completing the electrical and instrumentation (E&I) works on behalf of Snamprogetti S.p.A. (Milan, Italy; www.snamprogetti.it) for another 450,000 m.t./yr…
