Cereplast, Inc. (Seymour, Ind.; www.cereplast.com), a manufacturer of biobased compostable and sustainable bioplastics, announced that it has received multiple purchase orders for compostable blown-film resins totaling approximately $200,000 in sales. These resins will be used for the manufacture of single-use plastic bags for use at about 45 supermarkets located in the Veneto and Trentino regions in Italy. According to Cereplast’s chairman and CEO, Frederic Scheer, these supermarkets are the first to utilize Cereplast resin. Scheer also expects that orders from Italy for Cereplast’s blown-film will accelerate quickly, as large retailers are continuing to transition to bioplastic resources for single-use bags. Scheer stated, “Our resins have been well received by Italian consumers and we strongly believe that these orders represent only a fraction of the overall market opportunity.”
