Chementator: Bioethanol

By Chemical Engineering |

Fluxome Sciences A/S (Lyngby, Denmark; edlinks.chemengonline.com/5830-547) has been granted patents in both the U.S.and Europe for a method to improve bioethanol production by engineering the ammonia assimilation in yeast. By modifying the redox metabolism, it is possible to reduce the production of byproducts (glycerol or xylitol, or both), and thereby increase ethanol production by 5%, says the firm. Proof-of-concept has been demonstrated in the laboratory, and the company is now introducing the technology into industrial yeast strains.   Click here for a full pdf version of the Chementator Section
