Efficient distillation Last month, Toyo Engineering Corp. (Toyo; Chiba, www.toyo-eng.co.jp) and Koch-Glitsch, LP (Wichita, Kan.; www.koch-glitsch.com) announced a new partnership to distribute Toyo’s energy-saving distillation system, SuperHIDiC, to new global markets in Europe and the Middle East. SuperHIDiC provides energy savings of over 50% compared to conventional distillation systems in various industrial applications, says Toyo. With its enhanced heat-integrated distillation column, SuperHIDiC has been recognized as the ultimate energy-saving distillation system (for more details, see Chem. Eng., January 2012, p. 10; www.chemengonline.com/this-distillation-column-promises-substantial-energy-reductions). The first commercial application of SuperHIDiC — for the production of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) at Maruzen Petrochemical Co. — started up recently in Japan (Chem. Eng.
