Chementator: Longer-lasting batteries

QuantumSphere, Inc. (Santa Ana, Calif.; www.qsinano.com) has filed a key patent for technology it has developed, which extends the capacity of rechargeable lithium-ion batteries up to five times, thus offering the potential to increase the operating life of portable consumer devices. The firm has also developed a paper-thin, electrode for disposable batteries — a patent-pending air-electrode design that increases the power output in zinc-air cells by 320%, providing about four times more power than alkaline batteries of the same size.
