Chementator: Pd catalyst

By Chemical Engineering |

Sigma-Aldrich (St. Louis, Mo.; edlinks.chemengonline.com/5829-550) has commercialized an air- and water-stable palladium catalyst for performing intermolecular cross-coupling reactions, aminations and intermolecular Heck transformations. The catalyst, developed by Professor Michael Organ at York University (Toronto, Canada), is based on a Pd-NHC (N-heterocyclic carbene) system. Named PEPPSI-IPr (for pyridine-enhanced precatalyst preparation stabilization and initiation), the catalyst has a 3-chloropyridyl group that serves as a “throw-away” ligand, and a bulky NHC ligand that promotes reductive elimination of the product, which results in increased yields. Sigma-Aldrich is offering quantities from gram to bulk of PEPPSI-IPr.   Click here for a full pdf version of the Chementator Section
