Chementator: Surface treatment

By Chemical Engineering |

NexGen Technologies, LLC (Farmington Hills, Mich.; edlinks.chemengonline.com/5830-552) has commercialized a next-generation of engineered surface treatments that imparts wear-resistance, anti-galling, anti sieze and reduced friction to a wide range of substrates. The treatment process involves a proprietary plasma-delivery system operating at below 80°C, which produces a vacuum-deposited, nanostructured, multiple-layered surface without altering the base material properties. Surface thicknesses range from 1 to 12 µm, and can increase the surface hardness to 2,800–4,500 Vickers.
