Chiyoda awarded engineering and procurement contract for copper-smelter project in Indonesia

Chiyoda Corp.’s (Yokohama, Japan; www.chiyoda-corp.com) subsidiary, Chiyoda Singapore (PTE) Limited, has been awarded an offshore engineering and procurement contract for Indonesia Copper Smelter (ICS) project by PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), which is an affiliate of Freeport-McMoRan Inc. (Phoenix, Ariz.). PTFI operates the Grasberg minerals district, one of the world’s largest copper and gold deposits, in the highland areas of Mimika District, Papua Province, Indonesia.

The scope of the contract includes offshore engineering and procurement services for a copper smelter, refinery and ancillary facilities to produce finished copper cathode by processing up to 2.0 million ton/yr of Grasberg copper concentrates. The contract is valued at $900 million.
