Chiyoda awarded EPC contract for Idemitsu Kosan’s solid-electrolyte plant

| By Mary Bailey

Chiyoda Corp. (Yokohama, Japan) has been awarded an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract by Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Idemitsu) for a large solid electrolyte pilot plant, aimed at the practical application of All-Solid-State lithium-ion batteries. A strategic partnership has also been established between the two companies, based on Chiyoda’s continuous execution of operations related to Idemitsu’s solid electrolyte business and our project execution capabilities. The project is part of Idemitsu’s goal of practical use of All-Solid-State batteries by 2027-2028, primarily for electric vehicles to enhance range, reduce charging time and improve safety. The pilot plant is expected to produce hundreds of tons of solid electrolytes annually.

Chiyoda is also engaged in enhancing the capacity of a small-scale demonstration plant for solid electrolytes, scheduled for completion in 2025, and is working on a large-scale production facility for lithium sulfide, with completion expected in 2027.
