Chiyoda licenses its acetic-acid process technology

Chiyoda Corp. (Yokohama, Japan; www.chiyoda-corp.com/en) has been awarded a licensing and engineering contract by Foster Wheeler Energy Ltd. (Reading, U.K.; www.fwc.com) for the use of Chiyoda’s Acetica technology for producing acetic acid. This technology will be sub-licensed by Foster Wheeler to Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (Petrobras; Rio de Janerio, Brazil) for Complexo Gás-Químico UFN-IV — a world-scale, grassroots gas-to-chemicals complex in Linhares, Espirito Santo State, southeast Brazil. The complex is planned to produce ammonia and urea, methanol, acetic acid, formic acid and melamine. Foster Wheeler is the Integrator for the project. Chiyoda will provide the process design package, technical assistance and training services during the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) phase until successful completion of the process performance test. Basic engineering design and front-end engineering design for the acetic acid plant are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2013.
