Coolbrook and ABB announce industrial-scale deployment of heater for cement plant in India

Coolbrook (Helsinki, Findland; www.coolbrook.com) and ABB (Zurich, Switzerland; www.abb.com) have announced the industrial delivery phase of their partnership to deliver a first-of-its-kind industrial-scale deployment of Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic Heater™ (RDH™) for Adani Cement’s Boyareddypalli Integrated Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh, India.

As part of a long-term partnership, which has included exploratory research and development and testing, Coolbrook has now awarded ABB an electrical equipment scope for the RDH project. ABB will provide drives, motors, an e-house and other electrical components and infrastructure, integrated with the ABB Ability™ System 800xA® distributed control system (DCS), to enable the safe, reliable and high-performance operation of the RDH system.

As renewable electricity capacity expands and climate frameworks tighten across key markets, industrial producers are increasingly seeking proven pathways to remove fossil fuel combustion from high-temperature processes. The Adani deployment will demonstrate electrified high-temperature heat generation at industrial scale, and the partnership between Coolbrook and ABB highlights the importance of combining advanced process technology with established electrification expertise.

The calcination phase of cement production is known to be fossil fuel intensive. Coolbrook’s RDH provides clean heat to dry and enhance the heating value of alternative fuels. By enabling a higher proportion of renewable or waste alternatives in the energy mix rather than fossil fuels, the deployment is expected to directly reduce ~60,000 tons of carbon emissions annually with potential for further increases.
