CPI Employment Landscape: Snapshot 2016

Insights about complex CPI workforce issues come from a variety of sources, including survey data on corporate attitudes, salary and diversity The chemical process industries (CPI) continue to face an interconnected web of workforce challenges, including the retirement wave of older workers and skills shortages in the younger workers who will replace them. Recent information from a variety of sources paints a picture of a complex set of issues, along with strategies for addressing them.   Executive attitudes A host of workforce insights came from a recent survey of chemical industry executives and managers conducted by the American Chemistry Council (ACC; Washington, D.C.; www.americanchemistry.com) and the consulting firm Accenture (Chicago, Ill.; www.accenture.com). The ACC-Accenture study surveyed over 100 “C-suite” executives from North American chemical companies, as well as 400 lower-level executives (see sidebar below, “ACC-Accenture Survey . . . “). “The survey results show a deep awareness of the talent challenges facing companies and a wide appreciation for the complexity of the issues,” comments Stephanie Rogers-Whaley, managing director at Accenture focused on chemicals, natural resources, oil…
