CSB Makes Recommendations Regarding Extreme Weather Preparedness

The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB; www.csb.gov) has released its final investigation report into the fire that occurred at the Arkema site in Crosby, Tex. last year. The severe weather from Hurricane Harvey caused unprecedented flooding that led to power failures, which led to a loss of cooling and eventually decomposition of temperature-sensitive organic peroxides at the site. The CSB report calls for “more robust industry guidance to help hazardous chemical facilities better prepare for extreme weather events, like flooding, so that similar incidents can be avoided.” Details and the final report can be found on the CSB website at https://www.csb.gov/csb-releases-arkema-final-report/
