Danantara, INA and Chandra Asri complete investment in Indonesian chlor-alkali, EDC project

| By Mary Bailey

PT Danantara Investment Management (Persero) (DIM; Jakarta, Indonesia), Indonesia Investment Authority (INA; Jakarta, Indonesia), and PT Chandra Asri Pacific Tbk (Chandra Asri Group; Jakarta, Indonesia) have completed a strategic investment transaction for the Chlor-Alkali and Ethylene Dichloride (CA-EDC) project. The project is expected to reduce reliance on imports, generate foreign exchange savings, and improve the availability of raw materials for downstream industries.

The partnership brings together the investment capabilities of DIM and INA with the industrial expertise and experience of Chandra Asri Group, which leads the project. The collaboration also creates an opportunity to further develop specialized technical expertise and operational capabilities in Indonesia, while supporting the growth of a stronger and more competitive domestic chemical industry, in line with the growing momentum of the downstreaming agenda.

Through this ongoing partnership, the CA-EDC project continues to advance. As of September 2026, construction was approximately 80% complete, with the main equipment being installed and supporting infrastructure under development. The facility is designed to produce approximately 400,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) of caustic soda and 500,000 m.t./yr of ethylene dichloride (EDC), two essential chemicals that strengthen Indonesia’s domestic manufacturing and industrial capacity. The project is targeted to commence commercial operations in 2027 and is expected to create approximately 3,000 jobs during the construction phase and 250 permanent positions during the operational phase.
