Editor’s Page: Seeking Wise Counsel

| By Scott Jenkins

The leadership expert Ken Blanchard said “None of us is as smart as all of us” — a phrase that applies to Chemical Engineering‘s process of editorial decision-making. One source of intelligence is the CE Editorial Advisory Board. We have recently renewed and expanded the Board, and I am honored to introduce its members.

Jonathan Alexander. Jonathan is the Manufacturing AI & Advanced analytics Manager at Albemarle Corp. (Charlotte, N.C.; www.albemarle.com). He has a wealth of experience in deploying and scaling machine learning and other artificial intelligence technologies at chemical manufacturing sites, with the goal of deriving real, measurable benefits.

Ngozi Chinye. Ngozi is a process safety expert and founder of the safety and risk consulting firm Soter Safety Associates (Southampton, U.K.; www.soter.com), as well as a software spinoff called Soter Software (www.sotersoftware.com).

David Dickey. David is the founder of MixTech Inc. (Coppell, Texas; www.mixtech.com), a consulting firm specializing in mixing processes and equipment. He has 30 years of consulting experience, and regularly leads short courses on industrial mixing topics.

Jenny Gaines. Jenny is the vice president for membership and engagement at the trade organization Society of Chemical Manufacturers and Affiliates (SOCMA; Arlington, Va.; www.socma.org). Jenny is a communications professional who has spent years tracking the regulatory, legal and logistical challenges facing chemical manufacturers.

John Hollman. John is founder and owner of the cost-estimation firm Valid Estimating LLC (Ashburn, Va.; www.validest.com). He has more than 40 years of experience in cost engineering, with an emphasis on cost estimating and risk analysis in the process industries and others.

Henry Kister. Henry is a senior fellow at Fluor Corp. (Irving, Texas; www.fluor.com). He is considered among the world’s leading experts in industrial distillation, with more than 35 years of experience in designing, troubleshooting, revamping, field consulting, control and startup of fractionation processes and equipment. He is the author of several well-regarded books and articles in this area.

Josh Marion. Josh is a senior project engineer with the consulting firm Jenike & Johanson (Tygsboro, Mass.; www.jenike.com). He is a specialist in bulk-solids-handling processes, helping clients across many industry sectors solve complicated solids-handling and flow problems.

Tom McGowan. Tom directs TMTS Associates Inc. (Atlanta, Ga; www.tmtsassociates.com), a specialty consulting firm that handles challenging and complex problems. Tom’s vast experience includes process and project engineering, development of new processes, system design, process safety, personnel training and project management.

Jairo Paternina. Jairo is a senior consultant with Jenike & Johanson, where he specializes in the plastics industry and process-vessel design, and in analyzing and solving caking problems in the fertilizers, chemicals, pharmaceutical and food industries.

Charlie Tan. Charlie is the CEO of Global Impact Coalition (GIC; Geneva, Switzerland; www.globalimpactcoalition.com), an industry consortium created to accelerate large-scale climate transition through coordinated industry action. GIC brings pools of capital together from major industrial players to originate, structure and scale bankable transition assets, circular-economy solutions and low-carbon high-impact technologies.

We thank the board members for their insights and promise to keep listening. ■
