Eliminate signal errors in motor monitoring with this device

The EB260 incremental encoder (photo) is a bearing-less rotary encoder that combines the precision of optical sensing with the robustness and cost-effectiveness of magnetic systems, while minimizing installation space. Typical applications for the EB260 encoder include speed control for asynchronous motors, precise incremental positioning, motion monitoring, overspeed, direction and standstill, along with airgap, temperature and signal-quality control. This encoder is designed to eliminate signal errors caused by mounting, temperature, aging and mechanical factors. The integrated airgap monitor continuously records the distance of the magnetic rotor, so even the smallest changes caused by damage to the machine mechanics are monitored and reported to the higher-level system. The EB260 has built-in IO-Link functionality, which enables optimum configuration flexibility. Additionally, no shaft or stator coupling is required, so the need for a complex sealing or cover is eliminated, thanks to its encapsulated suite software. — Baumer Ltd., Swindon, U.K.
