Gani to take office as president of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering

Effective January 1, 2014, Professor Rafiqul Gani from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) will take office as president of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE; www.efce.org) for a two-year term. Gani succeeds the outgoing president, Professor Richard Darton, who has occupied the post since 2010.
Speaking in Frankfurt, Germany, at the last meeting of EFCE officers for 2013, Gani gave a strong commitment to raising the visibility of the Federation and he said, “It is a special honor to lead Europe’s pre-eminent body for chemical engineers and I plan to build on the good work of my predecessor, Richard Darton. I will use my term of office to strengthen relationships between chemical engineers in Europe and set some clear goals around which both national societies and specific technical communities can unite.”
The acting dean at ENSIACET, Toulouse, France,  Professor Jean-Marc Le Lann becomes the new EFCE vice-president with responsibility for technical matters. Le Lann pledged to work closely with Gani and he said, “I want to strengthen the role of EFCE’s scientific groups by attracting more industrialists and young scientists and by introducing new working parties & sections, as well as new meetings on topics of major interest to industry and society.”
Also in January 2014, Professor Mike Considine of Sheffield University, U.K., will succeed Akzo Nobel’s, Wridzer Bakker as EFCE’s executive vice-president and treasurer.
