Plant Watch BP, ABF and DuPont unveil $400-million investment in U.K. biofuels June 26, 2007 — BP, Associated British Foods (ABF) and DuPont announced investment plans of about $400 million, for the construction of a bioethanol plant alongside a demonstration plant to advance development work on the next generation of biofuels. The bioethanol plant, in which BP and ABF subsidiary British Sugar would each hold 45 % with DuPont owning the remaining 10 %, will be built on BP’s existing chemicals site at Saltend, Hull. Due to be commissioned in late 2009, it will have an annual production capacity of about 420-million liters from wheat feedstock. Aker Kvaerner has been selected to execute the front-end engineering and design. UOP and Eni plan facility to produce diesel fuel from vegetable oil June 19, 2007 — UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, and Eni S.p.A. announced that Eni will build a production facility using Ecofining technology, a process for converting vegetable oils to “green” diesel fuels (for more on the process, see CE, May 2007, p.18). The facility, to be located in Livorno, Italy, will process 6,500 bbl/d of vegetable oils to supply European refineries with a high-cetane green diesel fuel. Dow…
