KBR: FGD and SCR equipment for large coal-fired power plant in the U.S.

KBR (Houston; www.kbr.com) has been awarded a contract by Southern Co. (Atlanta, Ga.; www.southernco.com) for the installation of flue gas desulfurization (FGD) and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) equipment, related ductwork, and auxiliaries at two 880,000-kW coal-fired units at Georgia Power’s Plant Scherer. Plant Scherer is a 3,520,000-kW coal-fired facility located near Macon, Ga. and is one of the largest single generating stations in the U.S. KBR will provide installation of all equipment and associated piping, steel, ductwork, electrical, instrumentation and related work. KBR will also be responsible for the procurement of piping and valves; receive all equipment and materials at the site; and provide storage, rigging, assembly of modules, lifting, placing, connecting and other services as necessary. The contract award follows the completion of various projects for Southern Company by KBR, most recently the Heavy Structural Steel construction project at Plant Scherer. “This project continues a successful relationship with Southern Company and expands KBR’s presence in the U.S. domestic power industry,” said Danny Hicks, Senior Vice President, KBR Construction. “KBR has assembled a highly-experienced…
