Lummus to provide furnace design for Chandra Asri’s second petrochemicals complex

| By Mary Bailey

PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical Tbk (CAP; Jakarta, Indonesia; www.chandra-asri.com) has awarded Lummus Technology with the detailed engineering design of a Lummus Short Residence Time (SRT) ethylene heater for CAP’s second cracker, owned by subsidiary Chandra Asri Perkasa (CAP2). CAP2, located in Cilegon, Indonesia, is projected to be commercially operational by 2024. The furnace design will use the latest technology, Lummus’ SRT VII cracking heater, which will allow the new olefins plant to have higher yields and reliability, while lowering emissions, feed consumption and operating costs.

With a total investment around $4.5 billion, CAP’s second complex will be one of the largest olefins and polyolefins producers in Indonesia, according to Erwin Ciputra, director of Chandra Asri.

The second complex is expected to comprise 1.1 million metric tons per year (m.t./yr) of ethylene, 600,00 m.t./yr of propylene, 160,000 m.t./yr of butadiene, 335,000 m.t./yr of benzene, 450,000 m.t./yr of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), 300,000 m.t./yr of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) and 450,000 m.t./yr of polypropylene.
