Mitsubishi Chemical to expand carbon fiber production plants in Japan and California

| By Mary Bailey

Mitsubishi Chemical Corp. (Tokyo) has decided to enhance its carbon fiber production capacity in Japan and the United States for high-end applications across the sports and leisure, aerospace, automotive and other sectors. As the need for lightweight and high-performance products in numerous sectors has increased in recent years, demand for carbon fiber for high-end applications has been steadily expanding.

Expansions will occur at the Tokai plant in Toyohashi-shi, Aichi, Japan and the Sacramento plant in California. Phased enhancement is planned to take place from 2025 to 2027, and the projects will approximately double the plant’s current production capacities.
