PETKIM selects Univation’s process technology for polyethylene complex in Türkiye

| By Mary Bailey

Univation Technologies, LLC (Houston) announced that PETKIM PETROKIMYA HOLDING A.S. (Aliaga-Izmir, Türkiye) has selected Univation’s UNIPOL™ PE Process Technology for a planned polyethylene production complex expected to be located in Aliaga-Izmir, Türkiye. The selection of the UNIPOL™ PE Process Technology represents an important step in the development of the planned project ahead of PETKIM’s final investment decision (FID). This project is expected to include a total licensed polyethylene resin production capacity of 850,000 metric tons per year (m.t./yr) across two similarly designed 425,000-m.t./yr reactor lines (“swing” lines). The project would be the first installation of the UNIPOL™ PE Process at the PETKIM site and would represent one of the largest polyethylene technology licenses awarded in Türkiye.

Univation also noted the strategic importance of expanding polyolefin production capacity in Türkiye to support the country’s petrochemical growth objectives and help reduce dependence on imported polyolefins. Against this backdrop, Univation underscored the project’s combination of scale, flexibility, and proven technology.

“PETKIM’s selection of the UNIPOL™ PE Process for this significant 850,000-m.t./yr project reflects the proven performance and flexibility of our technology,” said Sereen Massoud, president of Univation Technologies. “By enabling a broad portfolio of high-performance polyethylene products across two reactor lines, this project would support PETKIM’s long-term growth while expanding domestic supply to meet Türkiye’s evolving market needs.”
