Remove O2 from water with this two-step vacuum process

corosys

The new High Vacuum Water Deaeration (V2WD) de-aerates water down to a residual oxygen concentration below 10 parts per billion (ppb) without the use of a stripping gas. Optionally, the water can be cooled down, filtered or sterilized with ultraviolet (UV) light. The function of the unit can be monitored and documented by an in-line oxygen analyzer at the outlet of the unit. The process can be used in the brewing, beverage, food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, as well as in the power-generation industry — wherever water with the lowest oxygen content is required to assure high product quality and stability, and to avoid corrosion. The system is characterized by high operational reliability and low energy consumption. — corosys Prozeßsysteme und Sensoren GmbH, Hoffheim am Taunus, Germany

Upgraded HMIs boast brighter screens, better resolution

IDEC

The recently upgraded HG2G-V5 5.7-in., HG3G-V8 8.4-in., HG3G-VA 10.4-in. and HG4G-VC 12.1-in. human-machine interface (HMI) touchscreen models (photo) are direct replacements for previous models, offering a seamless upgrade path and fitting into the exact same panel cutouts. All HMI programming can be converted from existing to these new models, so no new programming is required. All updated models use TFT-LCD screens, with the three larger-sized HMIs improving the resolution to 1,024 x 768 pixels, while the 5.7-in. model remains at 640 x 480 pixels. The entire range of HMIs in the series offers top-performing brightness, in this case ranging from 600 to 800 cd/m2, to deliver greater visibility, even in high-glare locations, such as direct sunlight. — IDEC Corp., Sunnyvale, Calif.

Bottling machines thatcount and inspect tablets

Marchesini Group

At Pack Expo Las Vegas (September 23–25), this company is presenting a monobloc unit (photo) that fills and caps bottles for pills, tablets or capsules. The Compact 12 counter is equipped with special applications to guarantee total product control. One of these is the HarleNIR vision system, which exploits a near infrared (NIR) hyperspectral camera to chemically distinguish the pharmaceutical products by analyzing their active ingredient. The company is said to be the first in the world to implement this technology for packaging blisters. Compact 12 is a monobloc unit that integrates a variety of operations on just one machine. Depending on the type of production and specific user requirements, the machine can accommodate operator protection or product-protection (laminar flow) systems. The machine is set up to handle all the main types of capping systems (screw-on, press-on or crimped) and offers the widest possible array of applications to guarantee total product control. — Marchesini Group, West Caldwell, N.J.

A flame-detection system with ultra-high-speed response

Det-Tronics

This company has introduced a new high-speed deluge module (HSDM) for the Eagle Quantum Premier (EQP) fire- and gas-safety controller (photo). The HSDM expands the capability of the EQP so it can activate ultra-high-speed suppression systems for high-hazard applications. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Standard for Water Spray Fixed Systems for Fire Protection (NFPA 15), ultra-high-speed detection and releasing systems must be capable of response in 100 ms or less from the presentation of the energy source to the flow of water from the deluge nozzle. The EQP safety system is FM Approved with the HSDM, making it the industry’s only listed flame-detection and releasing system capable of ultra-high-speed response, says the manufacturer. — Det-Tronics Corp., Minneapolis, Minn.

An enhanced level transmitter for interface applications

Emerson

This company has enhanced its Rosemount 5300 Guided Wave Radar Level Transmitter (photo) to optimize separation process performance and prevent costly product ingress by accurately measuring a thinner top liquid layer in interface applications. The Rosemount 5300 can now also perform measurements to the top of a tank, enabling increased throughput and profitability. In interface-measurement applications, such as separators, the top product layer must be of a certain minimum thickness for a guided-wave radar transmitter to distinguish between the echoes from the two liquids. Previously, this minimum detectable thickness would be between 50 and 200 mm. The company’s patented “Peak in Peak” interface algorithm now enables the Rosemount 5300 to detect a top liquid layer of just 25 mm. — Emerson, St. Louis, Mo.

This magnetic separator protects valves from damage

DMN

This company has launched its first DMN Magnetic Separator demonstration unit (photo). The new range is designed to remove sub-micron metal contamination (including particles of 304 and 316 stainless steel) from dry, free-flowing products, such as sugar, grain, flour and other granulates and powders during processing. Theseparators will help to increase the life of rotary-valve vanes and blades by preventing metal contamination from entering the unit and causing damage. The ideal location for a DMN Magnetic Separator is as close to the rotary valve as is practical. The magnetic material incorporated into these units reaches a product contact strength of 10,000 Gauss. The easy-clean design allows the separators to be safely and quickly cleaned by removing the magnetic cores from their fully welded 316 stainless-steel tube housings. All units can be ATEX certified for use in Zones 20, 21 and 22 or in gas Zones 0, 1 and 2. — DMN UK Ltd., Calne, Wiltshire, U.K.
