A mechanical seal for multi-phase process conditions
The DF-(P)DGS6 (photo) is a dry gas seal for multiphase pump applications that is suitable for applications involving ethane, CO2 and similar media with low vapor margins. The seal features this company’s DiamondFace sliding-surface technology, which is designed for maximum operational performance under multiphase process conditions (liquid or vapor supercritical fluid). The primary seat and seal face are made from silicon carbide with DiamondFace technology, while the secondary seat and seal face are made from silicon carbide with DLC coating. Secondary seals are made from polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE). Other elastomers are available, depending on product gas composition. The company says the DF-(P)DGS6 is an ideal upgrade solution for wet mechanical seals with dry-running issues. With a simple set-up that does not require seal-gas heating or a nitrogen buffer, the DF-(P)DGS6 experiences lower leakage rates and avoids icing problems with CO2, while keeping emission rates low.
