Saint-Gobain S.A. (Courbevoie, France) has inaugurated a second float glass production line in Ain Sokhna, Egypt, doubling the site’s capacity. The line is operated through a joint venture between Saint-Gobain and Türkiye Şişe ve Cam Fabrikaları A.Ş. (Şişecam; Istanbul, Turkey).
In November, the company will also launch a new gypsum board manufacturing facility in Sadat City, operated through a joint venture between Saint-Gobain and Dalsan Alçı Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş. (Dalsan; Ankara, Turkey). The facility is strategically located within Egypt’s key urban development corridor and is integrated with Saint-Gobain’s existing plaster line to create a comprehensive gypsum solutions hub, enhancing service to customers.
Saint-Gobain has been present in Egypt since 2006, operates four major manufacturing hubs, employs 900 people and generates annual revenues of around €150 million, which have tripled over the past eight years. As a key partner in local construction ecosystems, particularly among architects and contractors, the company is broadening its presence in the country into gypsum board, expanding beyond its leading positions in glass, plaster and construction chemicals.
The Egyptian construction market benefits from supportive megatrends, including strong demographic growth and urbanization needs. The country plans to build 37 new smart cities by 2050 to accommodate a 30% increase in its population of 120 million expected over that period.
The investments are fully aligned with Saint-Gobain’s “Lead & Grow” strategic plan, which aims to accelerate profitable growth.
