The Sherwin-Williams Co. (Cleveland, Ohio) hosted a ceremonial ribbon-cutting celebrating the grand opening of its expanded architectural paint and coatings manufacturing facility in Statesville, N.C. The Statesville facility is now Sherwin-Williams’ largest plant in North America.
The expansion represents the culmination of years of planning, construction and collaboration. It strengthens Sherwin-Williams’ manufacturing, distribution and logistics capabilities, positioning the company to better serve customers for years to come. With nearly 50,000 square feet of improvements, the facility includes expanded production space, automation enhancements, four new rail spurs and related infrastructure that streamline material handling and improve operational efficiency.
This project adds significant manufacturing capacity and enhanced logistics capabilities to support growing customer demand. The site also complements Sherwin-Williams’ nearby distribution service center, a new hub connecting production, transportation and distribution to the company’s global operations.
“This grand opening marks an important milestone for Sherwin-Williams and our Statesville team,” said Heidi Petz, chair, president and CEO of Sherwin-Williams. “With expanded production space, new rail infrastructure and greater automation, this facility gives us more flexibility and efficiency in how we manufacture and move products across our global supply network. It also advances our enterprise priority to strengthen supply chain responsiveness, helping us be an even more dependable and reliable supplier for our customers as we drive long-term growth.”
This investment reflects the strength of a public-private partnership between Sherwin-Williams and the state of North Carolina, Iredell County and the city of Statesville, which includes approved incentives in support of the project.
“Sherwin-Williams has been an important part of the Statesville community for more than three decades, and we are proud to celebrate its continued investment in North Carolina,” said North Carolina Lt. Gov. Rachel Hunt. “This expansion strengthens Statesville’s role in advanced manufacturing, supports good jobs and reflects the confidence companies have in our people, infrastructure and business climate.”
Sherwin-Williams has operated in Statesville since 1993. The site was selected for expansion because of its access to transportation infrastructure, skilled workforce and strategic location within the company’s manufacturing and distribution network.
“Projects like this show why Statesville continues to be a strong location for advanced manufacturing,” said Statesville Mayor Doug Hendrix. “We are proud to support an expansion that brings together local talent, transportation access and public-private partnership to create lasting value for our community.”
Several state, county and local public officials joined Sherwin-Williams employees and key project partners in celebrating this milestone event. In addition to Lt. Gov. Hunt and Mayor Hendrix, public dignitaries provided remarks in person or via video at the ceremony, including Vice Chair of the Iredell County Board of Commissioners Melissa Neader, U.S. Sen. Ted Budd and U.S. Rep. Pat Harrigan.
