Solvay completes new high-purity hydrogen peroxide plant in Germany

| By Mary Bailey

Solvay S.A. (Brussels, Belgium) has built a new Electronic-Grade production facility for high-purity H2O2 at its Bernburg site in Germany.

“Developments in society and technology in recent years have reinforced our belief that demand for our product can only grow.” reports Maik Diederich, Business Manager EMEA,” What is now obvious to everyone – especially after the recent impact of COVID-19 on our lives – is that our world is heading towards extensive digitalization in all areas: homeschooling, home office, Internet of Things, 5G, cloud computing, smart home, industry 4.0, electromobility etc. The European semiconductor industry plays a crucial role in these developments.”

The new production line (EG20) has been finalized on time, and it incorporates innovations and benefits from the additional know-how acquired with the several H2O2 purification units that Solvay completed in Asia and Europe in recent years. It accommodates the semiconductor industry’s requirements in quality and volume of today and years to come. The product from the new line has been successfully qualified with Solvay’s customer population.

High purity hydrogen peroxide is a key chemical in the manufacture of semiconductor chips. With EG20, Solvay is laying the foundation for the next 20 years as the leading supplier to the semiconductor industry in Europe – with high-purity hydrogen peroxide produced in Bernburg.
