Sumitomo Seika Chemicals completes SAP pilot plant

Sumitomo Seika Chemicals Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan) announced the completion of its dedicated pilot plant for super absorbent polymers (SAPs) at its Himeji Works (Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture).

The company is developing new products SAP focused on environment and safety, considerations as well as streamlining its operations to further enhance its competitiveness. This plant is designed as a scaled-down model of its actual manufacturing plant, enabling medium-scale experiments under conditions similar to actual manufacturing environments.

In addition, with a view to innovations in production technologies and operational sophistication in the future, it features a highly expandable and flexible design to accommodate more severe operating conditions such as high temperatures and high pressures.

The company aims to accelerate commercialization by fully leveraging this facility to ensure a smooth transition of new technologies from development research to industrialization research.
