Synthomer opens expanded nitrile latex production facility in Malaysia

Synthomer (London, U.K.; www.synthomer.com) formally opened the latest 90,000-metric ton expansion of its nitrile latex production facility in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, in the presence of over 120 customers, suppliers, contractors, government officials and media representatives.

The plant was officially opened by The British High Commissioner to Malaysia, Her Excellency Vicki Treadell, CMG MVO supported by Synthomer CEO Calum MacLean, Chairman Neil Johnson and Executive Vice President, Asia Derick Whyte.

During his speech, Calum MacLean reiterated Synthomer’s continuing commitment to investment to support Glove Industry growth globally. The current investment costing RM265 Million ($63.5 Million) is the first phase of a two-phase expansion in Pasir Gudang using  a new reactor technology,  and Calum MacLean intimated the second phase, adding a further 60,000 metric tons, would be operational sometime in 2020.

In addition to the capacity investments, he also took the opportunity to inform the guests that Synthomer would construct a new, state-of-the-art Asian Innovation Centre close to Senai Airport in Johor,also scheduled to open in early 2020 at a cost of RM35 million ($ 8.5 million).
