Tata Projects Ltd. (Mumbai, India) an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company and a key member of the Tata Group (Mumbai, India), has secured a significant EPC contract from Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC; Vadodara, India) for the development of an integrated phosphoric acid–sulfuric acid (PA–SA) complex at Sikka, Jamnagar, Gujarat. The contract marks an important milestone in Tata Projects’ expansion into specialized process industries and reinforces its position as an EPC partner for complex industrial infrastructure.
The proposed complex will comprise a 600 metric tons per day (MTPD) phosphoric acid plant and a 1,800 MTPD sulfuric acid plant, along with associated utilities and offsite infrastructure. A key component of GSFC’s strategic expansion and backward-integration program, the project is designed to strengthen captive raw-material availability for phosphatic fertilizer production, reduce exposure to imported inputs and enhance long-term operational resilience.
For Tata Projects, the contract represents a strategic advancement in its process-industry business, further strengthening its capabilities in delivering technically demanding industrial facilities.
Rajiv Menon, president and chief growth and strategy officer, Tata Projects, said, “Built on sustained engagement with GSFC, the award demonstrates our ability to compete for and secure complex industrial projects through differentiated solutions and a compelling value proposition. As we expand our presence in chemicals, fertilizers and other specialized process industries, our priority remains to build a high-quality, diversified order book anchored in technical expertise, execution credibility and enduring customer partnerships.”
The scope of the project involves the integrated development of phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid manufacturing facilities, supported by the necessary utilities and offsite systems. Given the interdependent nature of these operations, successful delivery will require close coordination across engineering disciplines, procurement, construction planning and commissioning interfaces. Tata Projects’ integrated EPC approach will be central to managing these complexities while ensuring efficient project delivery.
The award further advances Tata Projects’ strategy of expanding its presence across high-value industrial segments, complementing its established capabilities in power, metals and mining, oil and gas, clean energy and advanced manufacturing. By strengthening its participation in the chemicals and fertilizers sector, the company aims to deepen its process-engineering expertise, diversify its industrial portfolio and create sustained value through technically differentiated EPC solutions.
