Teijin Frontier to expand production of recycled-polyester filament yarn in Thailand

| By Mary Bailey

Teijin Frontier Co., Ltd. announced that it will expand production capacity for high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarn used in industrial applications such as tire cords, reinforcements for rubber products and seat belts. The expansion at Teijin Polyester (Thailand) Limited (TPL), a group company in Pathumthani that manufactures polyester yarns, will begin in November 2025, and is expected to increase production by 620 metric tons per year (m.t./yr). The expansion of production for raw yarns will be achieved by improvements in upstream equipment.

Demand for recycled polyester filament yarn for industrial applications is increasing due to strong requirements for circularity, such as the European Union’s End-of-Life Vehicles (ELV) regulation announced in 2023. Additionally, the need for high-performance polyester filament yarns with enhanced functionality, such as high tenacity and flame resistance, is growing in response to safety improvements in industrial and automotive parts.

Teijin Frontier currently produces these yarns at TPL. However, limitations in raw yarn production capacity have made it difficult to increase output of recycled polyester filament yarns for industrial applications while also manufacturing functional polyester filament yarns for industrial applications using the same equipment.

To address this, Teijin Frontier is investing in TPL infrastructure. The objective is to meet the rising demand for high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarns, and this investment will also contribute to expanding applications of functional polyester filament yarns.

Teijin Frontier plans to widely market these yarns domestically and internationally, including within the Teijin Frontier Group. In the future, the upgraded equipment will also be utilized to produce newly developed high-tenacity recycled polyester filament yarns for industrial applications.
